Re: Troubleshooting

Reading the other threads I stumbled on this: http://www.lasermad.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=285#p285 and Tony's reply... Just to clarify, I did attach the heat pad, paying close attention so that it would be square under the IC. I plugged it back in this morning and the temp started at 71.5, which ...

Re: Troubleshooting

I just got my thermometer together tonight. All the nixies and leds light up. The IR led works and I can switch through all the different modes. So what's my problem? The displayed temp is quite a bit higher then actual. After I let it run for a few minutes it settled on 79.7.℉ but I know my house i...

Re: Piece display PCB discussion

Yeah, I've tried a few nixie's. I've even swapped out from working boards and none work.

Re: Piece display PCB discussion

Sorry for not getting back sooner. Work has me pretty bogged at the moment, but I was able to squeeze in a little project time this past weekend. There's a short somewhere, check for solder bridges across the ceramic capacitors and if it's an engraved board look for copper whiskers/dust between trac...

Re: Piece display PCB discussion

So, I hit my first display PCB problem. I have a completed piece that won't light. I've finished just about 24 of the 32 display boards and this is the first one to give me any problems... I checked all the solder points and everything looks nice. The diode is pointing the correct direction. Not sur...

Re: Just about halfway complete...

Sure thing! I've never done a blog before, or posted videos to YouTube, or recorded myself doing anything. It's all just a bunch of fun for me, but if anyone else enjoys it all the better. I've been thinking about videoing the assembly of one row of the board. It will probably be pretty long and I w...

Just about halfway complete...

...at least if you don't include cleaning up and painting the top of the board and the display piece covers. I'm just talking about all the electronics. I've finished exactly half of the board, tested and working, and 11 of the 32 display pieces, also tested and working. And another 8 display coils ...

Re: Board PCB discussion

I moved the coils and what I found was pretty interesting. So, all four coils were in the first row on the right. I tried moving them to the second row, but the displays didn't light up there either. Then, I moved them to the left side of the board in both the first and second row. The left side of ...

Re: Board PCB discussion

I don't see any shorts. Everything looks just as it should. I suppose it's possible a stray bit of wire was on the table, but I guess I will never know since everything is all cleaned up know. I replaced the resistor, but now none of the coils seem to be providing power. I can't get any of my displa...
