If you received your kit after the end of November 2014 it will use our new design with sockets for the nixies. The make life much easier in the rare occasion of a fault with either the nixie or more likely the LED. The tube can be simply unplugged and replaced.

You'll have received these extra parts:

Using wirecutters or pliers carefully break the turned pin sockets out of the plastic housing:

Push the pins into the bakelite holder:

There should be enough parts to make 6 of these sockets but you'll only need 5. Once made, drop them into the V1-5 positions on the PCB and solder them in place.

Now fit the **short flat-top** LEDs through the centre hole so they sit on top of the socket. NOTE that these are polarised and must be fitted the right way round. The SHORT PIN faces to the LEFT of the PCB when viewed from the front. If you received both short and standard height LEDs use the short ones NOT the standard height ones.

Continue the rest of the assembly as normal.

Fit the black plastic transistors x5 marked 'MPSA92' or '2N6520**' in locations marked for T1,3,5,7 and 9 as shown: NOTE these are polarised and must be fitted the right way round. There is a flat mark on one side of the body, this flat side faces to the LEFT of the PCB when viewed as shown in the photograph.

Fit the blue or black aluminium can 470u 10V/16V capacitor in the location marked for C8 as shown: NOTE this is polarised, the negative- terminal is marked with a white band. This faces towards the BACK/TOP of the PCB when viewed as shown. Try and leave enough room on the right of it for R13 to be fitted.

Carefully fit the USB socket, it may be a little tight but don't push too much or you may damage the pins. Fit the 3.5mm jack socket marked SK2:

We've almost finished with bag 1 for now - just the buzzer LS1 left to fit.

V2 only: You should have 5x 24k resistors left over (red yellow orange). These are fitted in places marked R27,32,33,35 and 36:

You should now only have the 2 brown ceramic capacitors Cx,y, and red fusible resistor left. Time to start on Bag 2, but first take a few minutes to go back through the instructions and double-check you've got eveything in the right place. Correcting mistakes will get harder from here on.
